Abstract
En route from Cannes to the Observatoire de Haute-Provence (OHP), I wasn’t out looking for traditional Provençal tablecloths or homemade herbal soap. Unlike the tourists I was passing on this high-speed, winding three-hour “road rally” of a journey in October 1999, I was rushing to make a late afternoon meeting with a man who has been dreaming of directly imaging extra-solar “Earths” for more than a quarter century.
