Abstract

Stroke remains the third leading cause of death in the United States, with approximately 500,000 new stroke cases reported each year [1]. The term stroke encompasses both hypoxic/ischemic brain infarction as well as a variety of hemorrhagic conditions, including hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and hemorrhage related to arteriovenous malformation rupture.
