Abstract

Some of the spaceflight pioneers discussed in this book are now working behind the scenes to lay out the foundations for a nonprofit organization to pursue the challenge of interstellar flight in earnest. The Interstellar Flight Foundation is a nonprofit (5o1c3) corporation primarily supported through philanthropic donations that conducts visionary, credible research toward the grand challenge of interstellar flight. Appreciative of the fact that its goal is beyond currently foreseeable solutions, the Foundation aims to demonstrate incremental progress over the course of this long journey. In addition to the research itself, the foundation will also address public education and will include provisions for capitalizing on any marketable spin-offs that are discovered along the way.
