Summary
Based on recent knowledge of Aspergillus teleomorphs, some species belonging to the genera Eurotium, Neosartorya and Emericella are treated taxonomically. The second heterothallic species of Neosartorya, N. spathulata, is described. Results on interspecific pairings between another heterothallic species, N. fennelliae, and A. fumigatus are also noted.

DIALOGUE FOLLOWING DR. UDAGAWA’S PAPER WICKLOW: In some of the crosses Dr. Kurtzman did with yeasts, he found that the ascospores produced in apparantly good matings would not germinate. Did you do germination studies of the ascospores from some of your crosses?
UDAGAWA: No, we did not test this.
HAWKSWORTH: How do you prepare your specimens for scanning electron microscopy? Your photographs are very beautiful.
UDAGAWA: We use the normal proceedure with osmium tetroxide using a suspension of ascospores. Sometimes we use a sonicator to settle the ascospores into an even layer.
