Abstract
Diet and nutrition as an issue of public interest has been gathering strength and momentum during the past decade. Expressions of concern regarding the healthfulness of dietary practices and requests for guidance in developing nutritionally-sound and health-promoting diets are heard with increasing frequency. Considerable attention has been given to research findings linking diet and nutrition to many chronic diseases, including cancer as well as coronary artery disease, diabetes, and hypertension.
