Abstract
Over the last 3 years a research programme at the National Hospital, supported by a grant from the DHSS has had the following aims: 1) to set up facilities for the close observation of patients with their electroencephalograms (EEGs) over relatively long periods of time; 2) to assess the value of these in the investigation of patients with epilepsy or suspected epilepsy, with emphasis on those patients whose diagnosis or treatment presented problems. This has been a combined enterprise involving Professor R.W. Gilliatt, Dr. R.G. Willison and myself from the University Department of Clinical Neurology, Dr. W.A. Cobb from the Hospital Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, Mr. P. Fitch (project engineer), and Mrs. Jacobson and Miss Short (recordists).
