Abstract

In the past conjectures have been made on several methods to determine the antiproton (p̄) proton (p) mass difference with stored counterrotating beams1,2, and recently a proposal was put forward to measure the antiproton mass (m) relative to the H- mass (mH-) at LEAR3 with a high resolution mass spectrometer4. In the following a possibility is outlined to measure the p̄H- mass difference in LEAR itself in a non-destructive way. This will be feasible when LEAR is operating in the p̄H- co-rotating beam mode that was originally proposed for the formation of p̄p atoms in flight5, and when the LEAR electron cooler6 is installed in the ring.
