Abstract
As has been outlined in the introduction and several other chapters of this book, there is now an excellent range of techniques available within the field of plant tissue culture. Many of the techniques (e.g. callus culture and micropropagation) are now very well developed and have become a routine part of horticultural and agricultural practice. Some of the techniques (e.g. somatic hybridisation and genetic engineering) are still in their infancy and a great amount of research will be required before they reach any meaningful, applicable results.
