Abstract
Investigations of diabetic neuropathy have primarily been concerned with the distal symmetric mainly sensory and autonomic polyneuropathies. However in both clinical and experimental diabetes there are evidence to suggest both structural and functional involvements of the central nervous system1,2. In a recent report it was demonstrated that spinal cord conduction velocity declines in parallel with peripheral nerve conduction slowing suggesting a common mechanism responsible for both central and peripheral neuropathies in diabetes3.
