Abstract
The development of the technique of shoot-tip grafting in vitro (STG) was a consequence of the high economic losses caused by citrus virus and virus-like diseases. They produce decline of vigor, yield and quality, they restrict the use of several rootstocks and in some cases they kill the trees, or make them completely unproductive. With the development of the modern Citrus Industry it became very evident that the use of virus-free propagative material was the only means to obtain an adequate benefit from the citrus orchards.
