Abstract

Most ischemia studies in intact animals have been performed by clamping the arteries, and there are some discrepancies as to the Ca accumulation caused by ischemia. We measured Ca contents and redox states of cytochrome aa3 (cyt aa3) in the suspension of rabbit proximal tubules to investigate a relationship between the degree of lowered oxygen supply and the degree of Ca accumulation in the tubule cells at the initial phase of hypoxic insult. “Initial phase of hypoxia” is used as the hypoxia within 30 min in the present study.
