Abstract

Lucifer dyes are sulfonated 4-aminonaphthalimides. Most have a strong yellow fluorescence in agueous solution. This and other properties make them useful as biological tracers. We briefly review here the synthesis of some Lucifer dyes, as well as their chemical and biological properties. Some points we present here have been discussed in detail elsewhere (1–3).
