Abstract
On February 24, 1877, Leonard Case, Jr. signed a trust deed willing his estate to endow “The Case School of Applied Science,” in the city of Cleveland in order to provide the community with a technical institution. Since its founding in 1880, Case Institute of Technology has developed its educational curricula to include comprehensive and contemporary undergraduate and graduate programs in science, engineering, mathematics and management; and internationally recognized interdisciplinary research centers. With the federation of Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve University in 1967, the science and mathematics departments of Western Reserve became part of Case Institute and Case Institute became part of a larger university, particularly distinguished by its professional schools including the Medical School with its extensive research as well as educational program. Case Institute maintains a prestigious physical plant within the University as a whole and in the unique University Circle cultural setting in Cleveland. The campus contains some of the most advanced technological and scientific instrumentation, facilities and laboratories in current use.
