Abstract
Oxygen dissociation curves of avian blood have repetitively been reported to be shifted to the right with respect to mammalian curves, P50 values of the hen exceeding those of human blood by more than 20 torr. This shift has recently been propounded to be a methodological artifact produced by high O2 consumption of nucleated avian red cells (Lutz et al., 1973).
