Abstract

The assumption that a decrease of the oxygen affinity of blood improves the delivery of oxygen to the tissues is still under debate. In vivo a variety of parameters cooperates in oxygen transport,. Therefore the use of a restricted model seemed to be justified in order to evaluate whether or not mitochondrial oxygenation is influenced by alterations of hemoglobin oxygen affinity.
