Abstract

Purification of the photoreactivating enzyme from Escherichia coli depends on three major factors: (1) development of a suitable assay, (2) selection of a source with high enzyme levels, and (3) development of a gentle, specific purification procedure. The preparation of purified enzyme is useful both in study of DNA repair enzymes and in the analysis of the role of cyclobutyl pyrimidine dimers in the induction of biological damage by ultraviolet light.
