Abstract
The recent discoveries of superconductivity above 20°K in the Nb3AlxGe1 − x 1 and Nb3Ga2 alloy systems have caused increased interest in the search for high-temperature superconductors. Pessall et al.3 predicted that high-transition temperatures should be obtained by alloying the ß-W compounds V3Ga—V3Si due to the optimum electron density attainable in this system. This system has been investigated by Otto,4 who found an increase in T c from 14.5 to 14.8°K between V3Ga and V3Ga0.8Si0.2 and large decreases in T c for V3GaxSi1 – x samples with x< 0.5. Previous studies5 had shown that for V3Ga0.5Si0. 5, T c , ranged from 8.6 to 11.9°K.
