Experimental Determinations of the Vertical Distribution of Contact Efficiency Inside a Fluidized Catalyst Bed

  • Chapter
Fluidization

Abstract

Vertical distribution of reactivity inside a fluidized catalyst bed was investigated by the use of the differential reactivity test for the partial oxidation of propylene. Large reactivity at the region adjacent to the freeboard as well as just above the distributor was observed. Carrying out the measurement at several temperatures, the mass transfer coefficient between the bubble and emulsion phase was obtained as well as the amount of catalyst particles directly contacting with the reactant gas. The amount of the directcontact-catalyst became larger for high superficial velocity. Bubble diameters calculated from the volumetric mass transfer coefficients agreed with direct measurements.
