Isolation of Resonances of a Cylindrical Target Immersed in Water by Means of a New Method Using Phase Information

  • Chapter
Physical Acoustics

Abstract

Every classical method which allows the isolation of resonances of cylindrical targets only involves the modulus of the complex number provided by the Fast Fourier Transform of a part of the backscattered signal. In this paper, the authors propose a novel experimental method which takes into account another aspect of this complex number. The ratio of the imaginary part (Im) to the real part (Re) of the F.F.T. processed on the whole backscattered signal, is used for the isolation of the target resonance frequencies. It is called the Im/Re method [1,2].
