Abstract
A better understanding of near threshold multi-electron effects in photoabsorption of both atoms and solids has been achieved these last years, with the Synchrotron Radiation, via photo-electron and photoemission spectroscopies. However, we must remark that, because of a different definition and position of the threshold for vapour and solid state samples, so called thresholds effects in Solid State Physics can be observed below the ionization thresholds in Atomic Physics. In both cases, the observed photoelectron spectra appear to be strongly dependent on photon energy, while the broadening of the absorption spectra often conceals the real position of the thresholds.
