Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present high resolution X-ray Ti K- and Ba L- absorption spectra in cubic SrTiO3 as well as in both cubic and tetragonal BaTiO3. A detailed analysis of the edge structures allowed the experimental evaluation of the two-center integrals which determine the width and the position of the lowest conduction bands1. The extended fine structure (EXAFS) above the Ba L1 edge of BaTiO3 gives the best structural resolution. We have extended the beating method2 to the case of two not-equivalent shells, obtaining evidence of the distortion of the oxygen shell surrounding the Ba below the Curie temperature. In SrTiO3 we have found also that the Sr ++ ions do not contribute to the total backscattering on Ti.
