Abstract

Dietary carbohydrates affect serum lipid levels in man as well as in other species. In general, the ingestion of simple sugars is correlated with hyperlipemia, a phenomenon that has been the subject of several exhaustive reviews (1–4). The ingestion of sucrose has been linked to the development of heart disease in man (5–7).
