Abstract
A brief review is given of the nature of lattice instabilities in high-Tc superconductors. The Frohlich instability in A-15 compounds is indicated to be a microdomain which acts as an embryo for the Martensitic transformations in these compounds.

Retrograde solubility is an effect which is well known for impurities in semiconductors. Because the lattice instabilities which give rise to large electron-phonon coupling and high values of Tc have a covalent character, it is convenient to use this term to describe bowing of, e.g., the A3B and A5B2 phase boundary in Nb3Ga. This bowing was first noted by G.W. Webb in Superconductivity in d- and f-Band Metals (ed. D. Douglass, AIP Conf. Proc. No. 4, 1972), p. 142, where a correlation between the bowing, the formation temperature Tf, and the transition temperature Tc was shown.
