Abstract

This chapter is devoted to an exposition of Katětov’s characterization of the dimension of X in terms of C*(X). We include little more of dimension theory than is needed for a self-contained proof of Katětov’s theorem. The few additional properties of dimension that are found here should help the reader to examine some illuminating examples.
