A Dynamic Approach in Information System Development

  • Chapter
Systems Development Methods for the Next Century

Abstract

In the past the rigid process architecture of standard software packages for business process support proved to be quite bothersome. Nowadays these packages are able to follow the dynamics within organizations in a more flexible way due to their rich functionality. However, important problems to be solved are an increase in the complexity of the environment, long implementation cycles and a chance that the broadly applicable generic business functions cannot be implemented easily just because of the rich functionality. This last issue can also lead to inflexible rigid systems as a consequence of configuration complexity. This paper discusses the Dynamic Enterprise Modeling approach in the light of these problems. It will provide a clear view on developing information systems and restructuring business processes implementing a standard software package.
