Abstract
The cryogenic expansion turbines supplied by the Advanced Technology Division of Air Liquide are presented, with a focus on a recent development: the integration of 3D wheels in order to increase the mass flow rate and the refrigeration power.
The comparison of 2D and 3D wheels is first described, with respect to mass flow rate, brake tuning capabilities and efficiency.
Mechanical aspects, linking the low vibration frequencies of the blades of 3D wheels as compared to 2D wheels, are also investigated, and solutions presented and discussed.
