Abstract
Neutrophil chemotactic activity (NCA) has been widely described in the serum of asthmatics after antigen challenge. We now report NCA in the bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid of asthmatic and non asthmatic subjects. BAL (about 50 ml) was obtained from 12 subjects (7 asthmatics and 5 normals) aged 26 to 40 years at bronchoscopy. Separation of NCA was achieved by FPLC cation exchange chromatography (Mono S column). Twenty five fractions were collected from each subject and neutrophil chemotaxis was assayed in a microBoyden chamber using 5 µm polycarbonate filter and stained for counting with Hema Gurr stain.
