Abstract
The active vitamin D, 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol (DHCC), plays an important role in the pathogenesis of calcium urolithiasis. Increased 1,25-DHCC levels are found in 30 – 80 % of hypercalciuric patients1-3. The underlying mechanisms, however, are not understood completely. In an experimental study we investigated whether cellular processes are important for the pathogenesis of vitamin D-induced nephrolithiasis and whether cytoprotective drugs as calcium antagonists can influence these processes.
