Abstract

The problem of deriving statistical models from basic principles in high energy collisions is compared with similar better known problems in elementary quantum mechanics. It is shown that several distinct problems should be expected, one of them having to do with the definition of relevant collective observables and another with the occurrence of the decoherence effect. It is furthermore indicated that, in the models one uses most frequently, energy dissipation and entropy production may become distinct questions.
