Abstract

In Japan, many cross-sectional studies show that most smokers start smoking in their late teens, and suggest that smoking prevention for junior and senior high school students is required (Ichimura et aĆ.1992,Osaki & Minowa 1993). To facilitate the development of effective smoking prevention programs, it would be helpful to specify the determinants of adolescent smoking behavior. To identify the factors which influence cigarette smoking among adolescents, we carried out a prospective study.
