Abstract
Before we can run a transient analysis, we must find the appropriate set of initial conditions for the variables. The most important requirement of initial conditions is that they do not contradict any of the equations in the models. Beyond that, they should make physical sense and represent an appropriate (usually quiescent) state for the system. This chapter will describe techniques for finding the initial conditions that are appropriate for a given simulation.
