Abstract

The vast majority of school systems and government agencies (including the FBI, emergency response services, and the United Nations) employ some type of critical incident stress debriefing after a traumatic event occurs. And, due to increases in work related and school related violence, the need for such rapid responses to trauma appears great. However, despite the widespread use of such protocols, the scientific community can offer only limited empirical support for their use.
