Modern Approaches to the Study of Crustacea

Abstract

The population of Macrobrachium tenellum (Smith 1871) in Coyuca de Benítez lagoon, Guerrero, Mexico, was studied throughout one year. The following population parameters were recorded for 569 organisms: a sex ratio of 2:1 females/males, an average total length of 7.52 cm (8.02 cm for males, 7.01 cm for females) and an average total weight of 4.28 g (5.95 g for males, 4.02 g for females). The species reproduces throughout the year with an average fecundity of 984 eggs for small females (3.80 cm long) and of 900 to 1200 eggs for bigger specimens (6.70 to 8.00 cm long).
