This chapter discusses the role of a gang expert in criminal cases going to trial. The chapter describes various definitions of a “gang,” federal laws, and the use of the RICO Act to prosecute gangs. Case examples were given to explain examples of why a gang expert may be needed in court. The summary concludes that hiring a gang expert is important for gang-related cases being tried before a jury.
