Abstract

STR DNA profiles can be used to determine biological parentage. For paternity, profiles from a mother, child, and tested man, or of a child and tested man, can be used to determined whether the tested man can be excluded or not excluded (included) as the biological father of the child. If the tested man is not excluded as the biological father of the child, analysis of the results is performed to determine the statistical significance of the result, reporting the combined paternity index and probability of paternity.
