Abstract
If we were asked to specify as briefly as possible what spaceflight is, we could just use three simple words: guidance, navigation and control. But if we want to be a little more prolix, we could say that it involves answering two questions, “Where am I now?” and “How can I get from here to there?” It is remarkably difficult to answer these deceptively simple questions.
