Abstract
We have shown in previous studies (Bottinelli et al. 1986, 1987, 1988a,b) the importance of the Malmquist bias and its consequences on the extragalactic distance scale; in particular, the local velocity field can be studied safely only from unbiased data. We have collected the largest available complete sample of B-band Tully-Fisher (hereafter TF) distances extracted from the Lyon-Meudon Observatories extragalactic data base (Paturel et al. 1988).
