Abstract
Progress in the study of bcc solid 3He and of properties of 3He along the melting curve has been extremely rapid in the past few years. Pomeranchuk cooling and high-field superconducting magnets have made the temperature region below 15 m°K and the magnetic field region above 20 kG accessible to the low-temperature experimentalist. More sophisticated and sensitive measuring techniques such as the sensitive capacitative strain gauges developed by the Florida group and elsewhere, X-ray determination of crystal orientation, and superconducting quantum interference detectors have also contributed in various ways to the rapid progress in this field.
