A Possible Immunodominant Domain on Myoglobin Recognized by T Lymphocytes

  • Chapter
Protein Conformation as an Immunological Signal

Summary

Sperm whale and equine myoglobin, which share 87% of their sequences, do not cross-stimulate proliferation of T lymphocytes, although they do crossreact extensively with antibodies made against either myoglobin, both for antisera and for several monoclonal antibodies. This failure to cross-stimulate T lymphocytes occurs in strain B10.S despite the fact that these mice are genetic high responders to both myoglobins.
