Abstract
Undoped single crystals of lithium fluoride were shocked along the <111> direction with initial stresses above the dynamic yield point. Prior to impact, the samples were heated to a uniform temperature ranging from 151 to 723 K and the relation between the precursor amplitude and the sample temperature was found to be a rapidly decreasing function. This dependence on the temperature of dynamic strength of lithium fluoride under <111> loading is similar to the temperature dependence of the critical shear stress in lithium fluoride under quasi-static torsion. This similarity supports the view that in both dynamic and quasi-static regimes, the secondary slip systems were activated.
