The Very Early Stage of Phase Separation Process in Al-Li Alloys Studied by Small-Angle Neutron Scattering

  • Chapter
Dynamics of Ordering Processes in Condensed Matter

Abstract

The phase separation process has been studied extensively, because it is a good example of non-equilibrium phenomena. Recent neutron scattering experiments in Fe-Cr and Al-Zn alloys have revealed a universal behavior that there are two stages in the process.1,2 The late stage of the phase separation process is defined by the q-4 dependences of the scattering function S(q,t) on the higher q side than the peak position. It has been well described by the theory of the kinetics of interfaces between matrix and precipitates.
