The Ureteral Stump

  • Chapter
The Ureter

Abstract

Diseases of the ureteral stump have received increasing recognition of late in determining the proper surgical approach to a diseased kidney. Many poor results, after removal of an involved kidney, can be traced to failure to remove a sufficient amount of ureter when nephrectomy is performed. Since most ureters left behind do not cause trouble, little attention has been paid to the remaining stump [29].
