Abstract
Ideally, subsurface hydrodynamic procedures require most simply the best possible estimates of the virgin formation pressures at the particular depths within the geologic units concerned. Most of the available pressure data come from drill stem tests (DSTs), which have been routinely run by the industry for the past thirty years or so, and from repeat formation testing (RFT) tools, which have only recently begun to be commonly used in petroleum exploration.
