Abstract

The urinary system develops from the intermediate mesoderm (nephrotome) connecting the segmented and nonsegmented (lateral plate) mesoderm. The genital system (gonads and genital ducts) also develop from intermediate mesoderm but the primordial germ cells originate in the yolk sac and subsequently migrate to populate the developing gonads.
