Abstract
Potential methods in combination with the theory of linear integral equations were first applied to the solution of the Dirichlet problem, i. e., the displacement boundary-value problem of elasticity by J. Fredholm (1906). Fredholm’s work was followed by a huge number of papers in the literature.
