Abstract
The traditional “geriatric giants” include incontinence, usually taken to mean urinary incontinence, which is a common and distressing symptom in frail older people. The current generation of elderly tend to find matters of elimination unmentionable, which partly explains their embarrassment and reluctance to report incontinence symptoms. Sensitive questioning and an offer of practical assistance is often gratefully welcomed, however.
