Abstract
Conventionally, the electrical activity of the human heart has been investigated using electrocardiography (ECG). An electric current dipole or ‘double-layer’ model has been widely used, and a plot of the dynamic Variation of the magnitude and orientation of this ‘equivalent dipole’ throughout the cardiac cycle is known as a vectorcardiogram or ‘dipole loop’. The vectorcardiogram may also be obtained from measurement of the cardiac magnetic field, for which both current dipole and magnetic dipole models have been considered. There have been very few reports in the literature regarding the equivalent cardiac current generator in the fetal heart Those fetal vectorcardiographic investigations which have been described have involved measurement of the abdominal fetal electrocardiogram (FECG), with the analysis being mainly carried out in terms of the current dipole [1].
