Abstract

Out of necessity, integrated delivery of health care is driving the consolidation of previously fragmented providers into vertical systems of care. Key to this integration is the support of physicians and the ambulatory care team. Managers of an integrated delivery system (IDS) face the daunting task of providing functional capabilities to help physicians practice medicine and to integrate these capabilities and the associated clinical information into the overall delivery system strategy.
