Abstract
Plasma ionized calcium (Ca++) is regulated within narrow limits. Only 43% of total plasma calcium (normal concentration between 8.3 and 10.3 mg/dl) is ionized, another 10% is complexed to anions and the majority is bound to protein (90% to albumin). Normal concentrations of plasma ionized calcium therefore range between 1.8 and 3.0 mg/dl.
