Abstract

This chapter details the technical operation of the North American Personal Access Communications System, Unlicensed B (PACS-UB) system, which was presented in overview earlier in this book. PACS-UB [1–3] is a time-division duplex (TDD) version of the PACS [4] Common Air Interface standard for low-tier PCS, with modifications to conform to the FCC etiquette rules for the unlicensed spectrum. Both standards are based on the Bellcore WACS air interface specification for low-tier service [5, 6].
